Hasret Balcioglu is an economics professor, microbiology and immunology expert, certified Lunar Analog Astronaut, gold and silver medalists in 4×100 and long jump competitions, and self-taught digital artist and painter whose creative works raise philanthropic awareness and provide insight through exciting visuals.
Hasret Balcioglu has held positions on executive boards of higher education councils, as director of graduate and research institutes, as acting dean of business and economics faculties, as an expert panel member for international quality assurance agencies, and as a Project-Based Mentor for the European Union’s Sustainable Economic Development and ICT Sector Programs.
She has contributed to World Bank projects, international business mentor groups, Techno Park, Research and Development Committees, and Scientific and Technological Research Councils.
Hasret Balcioglu has joined Johns Hopkins University’s 2020 Epi Biostat Summer Institute Seminar Series and the Summer School on Innovative Approaches to Science, completed a Space Medicine course at Duke University, received the Advanced Research Mentoring and Scholarship for Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Lab Work from BioTecNika India, and taken several Epidemiology courses at Harvard University.
She has certifications from the Texas State LBJ Institute for STEM Educator and Research, NASA EPDC, NASA Earth Science Education Collaborative, and NASA Citizen Science Projects.
Hasret Balcioglu has received Outstanding Research Awards, Outstanding Teacher Awards, and International Competition Awards, including a Global Finalist Award from the NASA, ESA, and JAXA-organized Global Earth Observation Challenge, a winner of the REINFORCE Challenge, and one of two winners of the EPS Citizens Science Competition.
Her digital artworks have been nominated for exhibitions and competitions in London, New York, Vietnam, and Italy, as well as contributions to collective exhibitions for the Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease Societies, and one of the top entries in NASA’s Astro photo Challenges 2021.
Hasret Balcioglu is currently a STEM Educator for Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut, a volunteer at the Community Resource Center in Colorado, USA, and a lecturer at Oxford Academy of Excellence’s Cosmic Girls Program in the United Kingdom.
