Nate Taylor

At first glance, much of our world (and the universe) is hidden to our base senses. Our tenacious and curious spirit emboldens us to venture into the unknown and discover. We displace the “known” through investigation and questioning. We experiment, build, enhance our senses, and apply our reasoning and creative brains to overcome challenges. Much like the (disputed) “eureka” moment commonly attributed to Archimedes’ realization of using buoyancy to measure volume (and thus mass) of a potentially fraudulent golden crown, I am chasing “eureka” moments for myself and others, to face and overcome challenges, inspire creativity and innovation, and to foster growth through the mutual discovery and sharing of space and science. I want to contribute towards expanding and strengthening the Australian space industry whereby Australian influence on global space issues, technology, and exploration can be applied to the meaningful and significant utilization of space, both domestically and abroad.

The tools I am using to do this are leveraged against knowledge gained through study of a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics and Mathematics via UniSA; the Southern Hemisphere Space Studies program through ISU; relationships, networks, and genuine connections; broad and dynamic industry experience; and an attitude of being a lifelong learner with a curious spirit.

My recent activities have included helping develop a team of science communicators to inspire and grow the Australian space sector at the Australian Space Agency’s Australian Space Discovery Centre as a Duty Manager and Space Communicator; delivering and developing space educational resources through UNISEC-Global including an address to UNCOPOUS in April 2021, along with being a core member of UNISEC’s Space Education Policy Compendium, and facilitating online programs such as the Space Job Fair 2020 (UNISEC-Global), and UNISEC-Global Virtual Meetings; Redefining and expanding the Adelaide ISU Conference as part of the 2020 and 2021 Executive Committee to highlight space utilization and education in the spirit of community and collaboration; fostered students of the Interactive Space Program – ISP20 (International Space University – ISU) as a Habitat Officer; lead the team project presentation of “Lunar Agriculture – Farming for the Future” during SHSSP 20 (International Space University); and the development/delivery of a space science workshop “Radiation is Everywhere”.
